I have a 1982 Mercury 115 "Tower of Power" that is installed on a 1982 Crestliner (I bought the set-up this way). I have a trim gauge on the dash but the motor does not have a trim position sending sensor. How can I install a sensor on this motor to get the guage working.

Merc did not make a trim gauge sender for a lot of those older Mercs. I do not know if an aftermarket unit is avail.

You should be trimming your boat by feel and sound, not the gauge,. You need different trim depending on how the boat is loaded. Trim for light steering and speed desired. Ideally the motor will pull right when trimmed in too much and pull left when trimmed out too much. Optimum trim is speed dependent.

Also, trim gauges are in accurate and slow to react. That makes them just about useless.

Thanks for the input but I am not new to boats just to this old one. Trim indicators are not useless. They are a big help when teaching teenage boys to drive the boat. Especially when pulling skiers, tubers, etc. and for being able to provide a visual to go along with "feel"for new drivers.

But thanks for your expertise on the matter.
