How to install a Keel Guard

I have a 20' Chris Craft bowrider and I want to install a keel guard. My problem is that the lower part of the keel actually sits on a part of the trailer. This doesnt allow me to put the guard on that part of the boat, which is where I really need it. Is there a safe way to lift my boat up 2" or so to install that guard?

Also is this a good guard?

depending on the setup and area you are trying to lift you can use an automotive floor jack to lift the boat, or I have used a scissor jack between a frame rail of the trailer and the boat, or block up the boat with some wood then lower the front of the trailer.

There are hundred ways to skin this cat, the back of the boat is supported at two points so you only need to worry about lifting the front at one point. Blocking it up with wood, jack stands or boat stands will be your added safety precaution.

I've done this to change keel roller on trailer...
1 - raise tongue as far up as it will go
2 - using jackstands, 4X4's, etc, block the boat up (you would need to be sure not to block where you want to put keel guard)
3 - lower tongue as far down as it will go. The boat should stay in place and make a gap between boat and trailer.

Do not put the keelgaurd on where the keel contacts a roller or bunk on your trailer or it will deform the guard. If you can adjust the point of contact that would best but if it is a fixed roller or bunk you can't put the guard there. It will get damaged from the pressure of the boat.
That being said, a keelguard is one of the single most useful items I've ever added to a boat. They take away TONS of stress when beaching your boat. I can launch at a ramp with no dock, pull up on the concrete to load people or gear and never have to worry about damaging the boat. Great addition to any boat.
I like the Megaware guard- mine's 4 years old and looks new- great item.

100% agree! The yellow guard was a near exact match on my hull, so its hard to notice unless you look hard. Its fun to watch the look on people's faces when i pull up and beach on the cement ramp area to unload passengers!

I have a keel guard branded guard, and the directions say exactly this.

On a side note, it was the best thing I ever did to my boat. Never think twice about pulling up on the beach when the loading docks are full, or nonexistent.
