How to flush/wash SX-M1?

I have a SX-M1 drive that looks like it might have a little rust residue inside. There was a brown streak that came out with the drive oil (which looked new BTW). I took the shifter plate/panel off to replace the seal around the shifter piston as it was leaking during the vacuum test. The gears and everything looked OK, but there was a brown residue that came off when wiping a rag over the parts. This unit was in a salt environment so I would like to clean it as well as possible before using it. I have heard mention of flushing a drive, but did not find anything in the repair manual or anywhere else. Is there an official (or even unofficial) method for cleaning/flushing an outdrive. Just want to have it in as good of condition as possible before using it.

Thanks.

So I don't need to "flush" it, just fill it back up and motor on? Change it again at the end of the year?

Thanks.
