Hi all, I recently broke a control cable on my 1978 Mercury 115hp motor. I'm replacing both throttle and shifter cables and was able to get them off the engine and remote control. However, I wasn't as careful opening the Mercontrol as I should have been and the detent pin and spring popped out. I also think I lost a couple of parts in the process. See item #s 13-16 at the link below.
Mercury, Mercruiser, Force, etc. - REMOTE CONTROL ASSEMBLY (ELECTRIC) - 115 HORSEPOWER
Reading through some other posts related to this on the forum, it sounds like I just need to make sure I keep the warm-up level from jumping up when I'm shifting, but I'd really like to fix this. The problem is that I can't figure out how based on the diagrams available. Could someone provide me with some pictures and instructions on how to get parts 13-16 back into place? I've attached a picture of the open control (missing stuff belongs in upper right corner I believe) and the pin and spring, not sure if that will help. I'm going to try and order the parts I need, but really could use some help on how to put them in. And what kind of lubricant should I use in the control box? Will 2-4-C Marine lube work? Many thanks in advance!

Not sure where that spring goes. The pin goes between the round casting and the flat spring steel, on the upper right side. You can see it has a 1/2 round shape to it. That tends to lock the control in neutral.

The reason the warm up lever is rising is that the detent spring and pin are missing. If you look at the inside of the lever you will see a detent ridge which matches a spring loaded pin that comes through a hole from the inside of the box. You can't see it from the inside as it is closed with a welch plug. I make my own all the time and I am sure you could as well once you see how it works. The pin in your hand does go up in the corner and there are two steel spring plates that fit into a slot there with the pin setting in the recess in the plates. The pin and plates are item 1 and 2 in your parts link. Click on them to blow them up a bit better.

Here is a link to the Merc Controls newest manual. Yours will be the first one in the list and should show all the parts and how they fit clearly. Any problems, just holler.

Here's a link to a parts diagram. Items 13, 14, 15 and 16 are the warm-up lever detent pin parts. This may or may not be your exact control, but the parts are the same.

The other detent and flat spring arrangement is in the upper right corner of this pic. The pic is from another control thread.

Gerry,
Thanks so much for that manual. That looks just like what I need. Hoping to work on it this weekend so I'll report back on how it goes. I really appreciate your help.
