Hi all, I recently broke a control cable on my 1978 Mercury 115hp motor. I'm replacing both throttle and shifter cables and was able to get them off the engine and remote control. However, I wasn't as careful opening the Mercontrol as I should have been and the detent pin and spring popped out. I also think I lost a couple of parts in the process. See item #s 13-16 at the link below.
Mercury, Mercruiser, Force, etc. - REMOTE CONTROL ASSEMBLY (ELECTRIC) - 115 HORSEPOWER
Reading through some other posts related to this on the forum, it sounds like I just need to make sure I keep the warm-up level from jumping up when I'm shifting, but I'd really like to fix this. The problem is that I can't figure out how based on the diagrams available. Could someone provide me with some pictures and instructions on how to get parts 13-16 back into place? I've attached a picture of the open control (missing stuff belongs in upper right corner I believe) and the pin and spring, not sure if that will help. I'm going to try and order the parts I need, but really could use some help on how to put them in. And what kind of lubricant should I use in the control box? Will 2-4-C Marine lube work? Many thanks in advance!
