Hi Folks,

New here today, so appologies in advance if this is in the wrong topic.

I have acquired a mongrel Mercury / Mariner OB which consists of a grey Mariner leg s/n 6074133 and a 70HP Mercury power head.

I need to order spare parts, but try as I might I can't find a serial number on the block. I've tried looking for welch plugs with numbers stamped on, but can find nothing.

The only thing I know about this powerhead is that it is a 3 Cyl, twin carb, 2 stroke.

I'm told it's between a 79 and an 83, but this may be incorrect. Judging from the condition, it's certainly no newer than 87.

I've removed the flywheel and can find the stator (which is what I need to replace) has a p/n 398-5704A4

Can anyone please help me by either guiding me to where the s/n would be stamped or by helping to identify the engine series.

Thanks

Thanks AMD ! That narrows down the leg, but I'm still none the wiser where to find the s/n on the power head. Anyone help ?

Thanks Outbored, it would help except that with this motor I can't be sure the cowling is the original for this power head, in fact, it can't be as it's definately a Mercury head with a Mariner cowling on it.

What I really need is someone to guide me to where the number would be stamped on the engine.
