There may be no such thing a a dumb question, but there sure are a lot of inquisitive idiots. Here is this inquisitive idiot's question: I have a "new to me" 1993 Palm Beach 21ft pontoon boat. It seems to me that, considering the small amount of gear that I am taking, and only one full 18 gal gas tank, the pontoons might be sitting too low in the water. The pontoons are in excellent shape, very clean and no visible damage. There are plugs on the back ends of both toons with what appears to be PVC heads on them that have been "rounded" by damage from pliers or something. It looks as though they have been sealed by something like maybe wax or another substance of some type. They won't turn and I'm afraid if I apply too much pressure to them they may break, and then I'd really be screwed. Does anyone here have any pontoon- draining experience? Are these plugs a standard size that I could find matches to if I break one? Are they sealed shut with something? TIA for any help...

Re: How to drain pontoons

They are a standard size (pipe thread) and are available at any hardward store. They can be resealed with teflon tape, pipe dope, or any of a gazillion thread sealers. The plugs are available in black iron, galvanized, brass, and PVC. Use plastic if that's whats in there now. If you can't get the old ones out with a slip-joint (water pump) pliers or wrench, melt them out. And by the way -- lighten up on yourself!
