My pontoon boat sat for over a year due to health problems. The vinyl cushions are dirty deep down. What can I use to clean them?

Magic erasers work okay for minor dirt, but not for DEEP cleaning. I play a lot with 30-40 year old cars and the best I've used is comet and a scotchbrite pad.

I've used the purple type cleaners before with good luck. Is it more deep down dirt or a mildew type issue?

If you have to resort to that strong of a cleaner be sure to put a very good protection on after cleaning. 303 is good. I also like Meguirs Marine Vinyl cleaner/protector.

i used WD40 and scotch brite pads before on some light colored vinyl that had turned almost black from years outside under trees. I would test in an inconspicuous spot!

Meguriers leather cleaner after the Magic Eraser. As mentioned previously use some type of protect ant after the deep cleaning.

I just got done cleaning some pure white seats that had been sitting in a shed (with no doors and full of snow)for about 15 years and as you can imagine they were nasty. I tried everything and could only get the surface dirt off, then tried Goof-Off and they look almost brand new now. the arosal can works the best, spry a small spot 3-4 inches and wipe off quickly(it evaporates fast)then just keep working your way around. depending on how bad they are you may need to do them twice. Do NOT keep working on just one spot because the vinyl will start to get soft and sticky until all the solvent evaporates.

One more thing...be sure to rinse, rinse and rinse after cleaning. Some cleaners can break down the thread used to stitch upholstery together and the seams will eventually split open.

On my last boat we used to use VIM cleaner with an old dish cloth. After ten years the boat seats were still bright white.

Do not put WD-40 on your vinyl, it removes the plasticizers that keep it flexible. Same with automotive vinyl cleaners. Look into 303 products and a medium stiffness brush, you wont be disappointed.

They also have a protectant for afterwards.
