My recently bought 2001 200hp FICHT engine spent %90 of it's life trolling. Had good compression... 130lbs on all 6. Should I de-carbon the thing? Plugs looked sooty. Or just use the good oil and go WOT a few times several times next season? How does one de-carbon an FICHT engine? Thx

Use the XD oil and should be good to go...I myself have never seen rings carbon stuck on a ficht and have torn down/repaired a bunch

You can give it a decarb and also switch to the XD50 oil. Bombardier makes an aerosol treatment called Engine Tuner. Can be hooked up to the Schrader valve on the fuel system and injected into the system while idling/running. Slick and a clean process. Follow instructions on the can, but be sure to get the connecting hose, as it's sold separately. This one-time shot provides a good, single cleaning-which will continue with regular use of the XD50 oil. (that oil has a carbon guard additive that most oils don't)
