Have an older galvanized trialer that I want to clean. I don't want to paint it and will not be putting it in salt water. Just looking for the best method to get some of the old dirt and grease off.
Strong cleaner won't touch the zinc coating. I'm thinking of Greased Lightning, or Mean Green. Wear plastic gloves, brush it on, rinse off.
Avoid anything with acid.
Can't emphasize that enough! Any acid base wash will take the galvanize right off. I once poured Muriatic Acid (used to wash concrete before painting) into a galvanized steel bucket. It instantly foamed up and overflowed the bucket leaving a nice shiny bare steel surface.
have 3 rug rats for rent ,they are just like elves, they can get into any tight spot with a tooth brush. then again they are not for rent you can have them for a weekend just feed them ....
