Jim...where the trim sender wires come through the transom mount inside the boat they go to a 2 wire connector (behind the motor) you can unplug it there and use an ohm meter. I'd have to check the book but it should be somewhere between 10 and 200 ohms as you move the sender from one end to the other, anything else will give funny readings on the gauge.
