Without a manual, about all you can do is check and see if the windings are open or grounded.<br /><br />c/6<br />Hooty

Ohm meter Bill. Take one stator lead and hook it to one end of the ohm meter and put the other lead to ground. If ya' read anything other than full meter deflection, the stator is grounded and ain't worth a hoot. The manual tells how to do running checks for output. <br /><br />Manuals are bout' the best thing since sliced bread.

thanks guys for the replies just got in from work, bout to check it out is there a manual presicely for my 1988 omc 2ltr seadrive

I have an 89 OMC seadrive 140 (two-liter I think). I bought a maual put out by Clymer. It is pretty good, although I am not handy enough to try most of what is in there. I did replace my power-pack though....
