How to check for spark

I think I've found the problem, but need to do some things before putting in a $$$ part (switchbox assembly).<br /><br />I've got a 87 inline 6 Merc outboard. How do I check for spark on each plug? My dad showed me on a car as a kid and I'm still recovering from that lesson ;-)

Good spark on (from the top), 1,3,5. No spark on others.

Swap the Blue leads to the Blue/white.<br /><br />If the spark follows...Replace the Stator.<br /><br />If the spark does not follow...change the corrisponding powerpack.<br /><br />TMD
