I have a 1981 21' Larson cuddy cabin and the electrical is not completed (hooked up)

Is it possible to start the engine with just the battery and no electrical running to it (key switch etc).?

if so how and once started how to shut off

the only indentify parts on the engine are "MERCRUISER 85785" and MCM 228 1347 736" it has a "Volvo" belt and is a V8 if that helps

thank you

Assuming this engine still has a points style ignition.

Supply B+ to the ignition coil.
Use a remote starter button clipped between positive and the start terminal on the starter.

Disconnect B+ to the coil when you want to shut it down.

Re: how to bypass electrical and hotwire enginge

thank you for the info

I've been trying to find the starter. I know what it looks like however never dealt with boat engines before just car engines

This engine is crammed in there pretty tight, this is the only thing that even resemble a starter. Cant even find the relay however looks like this does have a wire running to the alternator that's why i think it is the starter does that sound right??

please forgive my ignorance on this matter i apologize. but the way to learn is to do

I did find the coil that was easy

thank you again

Your engine is a standard small block Chevy 305 V8, starter is in the same place as on a car or truck, bottom of the block, starboard side, aft, at oil pan level.
Below the exhaust manifold.
