How to best start a boat with a push button

Last year a friend of mine was helping when my boat wouldn’t start. It turns out it was a bad ECM that I had in my 2010 Suzuki 90 HP. The ECM replacement was not available for months, so he added a push button start. It works, however, when starting it cold, I turn the key, push the start button and throttle the boat in neutral. It takes about 4 tries to start it up. Is there any short cut to get it to start faster?

Replace the ECM and wire it back to stock . My uneducated guess is the choke is not working the way it is now wired up .

Learn something new....thought the ecm would be needed to make the engine run........like the previous poster mentioned, is the choke/ primer working ??

If I throttle it in neutral, it starts. It just take a few cranks. Once it warms up, it runs perfectly.

Sounds like only the start circuit relay went bad in the ECM.

You could take the cowl off and hit the primer/enrichener by hand if it has a manual bypass.

If you have no way to hit the choke/enrichener, you have been doing pretty good to get it started at all! Be happy with that at worst.

I think you are right, re the circuit relay that went bad. When you say "hit the primer/enrichener by hand", can you describe this in a bit more detail, so I understand? Back in the 70s when we had trouble starting a car, we'd spray starter fluid in the carburetor and it would start right up. Thank you.

I do not believe there is a " choke " or a carburetor on this fuel injected motor.-----Have you checked the " neutral start " switch.

4 tries, or 3-4 cranks.

most EFI motors require 2 complete revolutions before the ECM knows where the motor is and can start firing ignition and injectors.
