How to attach a ski rope?

I know, I know, stupid question ... Eagle scout aughta know ... but I was raised on a farm ... We recently sold our pontoon boat and purchased a 2000 Monterey 220 EX deckboat. It has a ring similar to the one shown here: http://www.iboats.com/Seadog_Transo...20349115--**********.192289017--view_id.39715 Question is, what is the best way to attach the rope? My wife an I have come up with three possibilites, but inquiring minds want to know and all ... pictures would be appreciated.

The ski rope should have a loop at the end.
Simply hook the loop over the vertical piece. If that isn't secure enough, pull the loop down and around the bottom, then hook over the vertical piece again.

thats about it.....dont overthink it our you'll go crazy lol. Or, if theres no loop, tie a bowline and use that loop. but they all have loops nowadays.
