WHY??????
Are you having problems steering?
There is a lot more to power steering than just the cylinder. Like the pump, hoses, coolers, and if you are now having cable problems, you will still need a new cable anyway.

Its steers fine just tired of being worn out after a day of boating...I just would think with power steering it wouldn't be much easier...

My guess by reading the statement "tired of being worn out after a day of boating" may mean that it just pulls to one side or the other. If that is the case, you could just adjust the trim-tab anode on the drive.
But just to ease steering, it would be a lot easier and cheaper and work just as well (If not better) to install something like a Sea-Star hydraulic steering system.
You can get kits for them, and they are fairly to install.
Here is a link to the Teleflex site that manufactures them. You can order them from here at Iboats.

http://ww2.seastarsteering.com/OVERVIEW/oview.htm

Re: How to add Power Steering???

I know how you feel as I have a 19' witha V8 and no power steering. The steering cable in the boat was almost 30 years old, so I went in search of replacements. I ended up getting a Teleflex NFB (no-feed-back) kit that was a bolt in replacement. It takes care of alot of the steering torque. I also think it's a slightly lower ratio than the old rack as it seems to take less muscle to turn the wheel when running down the lake. Cost was about $180 if I remember correctly and you can pick one up here at IBoats.

Re: How to add Power Steering???

I was thinking about adding P/S to my boat as well. But, if I understand this correctly, adding P/S is NOT the answer to the problem? Just replacing what's there will make it steer easier?

I have found it VERY difficult to straighten the boat out, if I give it power while in a near full turn. Replacing the stock stuff(1988 3.0 alpha one) will alleviate this problem, instead of adding P/S?
