How tight on the U Bolts

I replaced the axle on a small trailer and was wondering how tight to snug down the nuts on the U-bolts. Right now they are as tight as I could get them with a wrench.<br /><br />I don't want to overtighten them and have them snap if that is possible.

Sounds about right to me. Use loc-tite if your afraid they'll come loose. It is usually easy to break them off by overtightening, been there done that.

skycam, all bolts have a max they should be torqued to depending on diameter and grade. Torque wrenches usuallly come with that info.<br />john

They can break but normally only if you tighten them vein popping, eye ball bleading tight.<br /><br /> Also use locktight or (better) lock nuts with a lock washer.
