How should i set manual tilt on johnson motor 25 ft pontoon

Ok i have a 25 ft pontoon with a 1976 Johnson seahorse 115hp. I'm new to boating so I'm still learning. I know how to raise and lower the motor manually but I noticed there is a pin and several positions I can set the tilt at. How do I know where to put it for optimal performance or should I just experiment with it.

Start it from the second hole from the bottom,See how that works.

Experiment with it by changing pin positions. When the prop starts to ventilate in a turn start dropping it down again. That's the best place for a manual tilt.
