how should I install smart tabs on this transom?

I have emailed the company and I am currently awaiting a response. I am too impatient though, I was hoping to pick up a set and install them this afternoon.

I have a 17' aluminum semi v bass boat with a stepped type of deck. I am unsure as to how to mount the tabs with the step being there. I have attached two pics with my hand as a size reference.

Mount the tabs on the upper step, and as far outboard as possible.

i don't know the answer to your question, but i have an observation. looks like you've got a support plate mounted to your transom. why? speculation would be that it's because of rot in the transom. the rust stain coming down from the screw or whatever it is in the bottom pick i think is further evidence that something is amiss leading me to think water intrusion, then rot. if that's the case. then holding water onboard might be causing whatever issue your trying to overcome. tabs would just be a masking remedy as to the real cause of the problem.. just food for thought..

Why do you think you need trim tabs of any kind? have you tried correcting your prop?

the rest coming from the splashwell is from a small anchor that th previous owner stored there (in the spashwell).

as for the plates, you are correct, the would was starting to rot around the holes so the plates were installed as a safety precaution. There was not much moisture getting in there but evidently it was enough (over the 20 years) to start to cause the rot. Through the bolt hole I was able to dig through the small amount of rot and reach solid wood, so its not too bad.

Reason for the tabs: I have a foil on it now and the boat only runs 35 mph. I know that the foil is creating drag in the water that is making me less effecient. Therefore, it seems that the tabs would be a logical decision to reduce the drag in the water while keeping the quick planing benefits of the foil.

FWIW if I take the foil off the boat as it sits the only way I can get it to not porpoise is trimmed all the way down. Also, I have played with the prop and the one on there was worked up by a local prop shop for my boat, pretty sure the prop is right.

Thanks for the insight!

Look on the manufactures website, http://www.nauticusinc.com/. They have a sizing chart there and then CALL them for mounting questions if the site's pictures don't answer your quesitons. You won't get a response from email. I just put mine on and went through the same thing. You won't regret it.
