How old is this drive for sale

I am looking for another alpha one drive.

I found one on internet but i wonder how old this one is ?

Can somebody tell me the age and maybe more details according to the serial number.

It'll be a gen 2 if it's an alpha

Serial number comes up as 1998 or newer...Alpha 1, Gen. II

2A016548 is a newer model probably 2011 or newer will be my guess… but the serial number comes up as a MERCRUISER ALPHA 1.81:1 DRIVE DIRECT SHIP unit.

You could call any Mercruiser parts dealer with the number and find out the year.

But do you mean with 'Direct Ship Unit'? Whats the difference ?

Seems Mercruiser may have sold (sent it out) it as a stand-alone drive to someone directly vs putting it in an engine application combination package to fit a certain boat production...Probably internal record keeping to help keep mistakes down to a minimum of mixing wrong gear ratios to engine sizes / come backs would be my guess.
