How old is this 90 HP Merc

I'm considering the purchase of a 90 HP Merc which I believe is an in-line 6 cylander. I've been told it's a 1988, however, it looks older to me. It has a serial # of 6624335. Any ideas on how to find out what year this engine really is?

My chart shows it is an 85 early in the production run.
