Hi,i have just bought what appears to be a yamaha 9hp but there is not a plate on the mounting bracket (just 2 corroded rivets) it runs ok a bit hot(on tick-over water coming out was quite hot) but i will check therm on top of head(as i can see one), i would like to know age and anything else about this engine.
All i can tell you is that it has forward/neutral/reverse gears, pull start recoil setup,2 cylinders,2 wires under carb doing nothing(my fingers crossed they are for charging system),gear and throttle are on the left of engine if looking at pull-cord,below pull-cord is a little button you pull out(only a short way) to start and to the left of that is a stop button. on the block is a number 65500 and F1 below the number, the engine is a short shaft.Sorry if all this is long winded but i thought i would try and give you all as much info as i can.
p.s. i take it it will be a 50:1 mix!.
thanks RAY

Re: how old is my yamaha 9hp

just been to yam dealers on the island and the engine appears to be a 8B (i think he said B) not a 9 which is on the coweling, he new this from the power head gasket i had made and from the 65500 numer i gave him. so progress at last...

that appears to be a 1977...go to : www.marinshopen.se and then to model guide for Yamaha then scroll down to model number list and you'll see the 8B is '77
