I just picked up a set of 67 inch Lake Region "Den-M" water skiis at a yard sale yesterday for $15.00. good deal? I figure even if i dont like skiing they were cheap pretty and might become ornamental. The denim designs screams `70s. anyone have any idea? and some pointers would be nice, so i dont kill myself. read lots here on skiing and towing so i am somewhat versed on speeds and safety.

They'll run heavy/slow and require more "pull" to get much of a slalom going. Those short rudders are a little harder on the legs, but the wide planing surface makes it a bit easier to get up outta' the water. I learned on a pair twice as old as that, have a pair a little older than that right now and had a set of O'Brien comps that I used in the 90's. You shoulda' seen the first transition run on the O'Brien composites after skiing on the "logs" for years ... the first spill was pretty spectacular.

We have a pair of Lake Region "Golden Surfer" skis. Bought mid-70s. Same exact skis with orange laminate bottoms but fake woodgrain top graphics instead of denim. They have lasted 35 yrs and still work great. They are one of at least 10 pair of combo skis in the boat shed at the family cabin. I love buying stuff cheap at garage sales.

If you are going up on 2 skis then deep water is easy, never tried that off a dock. I'd start out on 2 and then drop one.

On one ski hopping off a dock or hopping out of shallow water can save you some strain, but takes practice for both you and the boat driver. You need to know how much slack is required when the boat starts to take off and the depends on how quick/powerfull the boat is. Its not a first time skier way to get out of the water.

I used to ski quite a bit and never got the "dock launch" figured out well. I don't think we ever honestly had the boat for it. Deep water starts you usually get a drink or two and then figure it out.

Hopping out behind my father in laws malibu is pretty easy and requires about a foot of slack. Behind my 3.0L It requires 3-4 feet of slack and an iron grip. I havn't done it behind my boat in years.
