How Often do you change the fuel/water Separator?

I have the one that looks like a oil filter. I usually empty it a few times a year and buy a new one in the Spring. I was wondering if buying a new one every year is over kill? Boat a couple of times a week on average for 6 months. 3 hours a day. I saw a few related threads after I posted this one. Back from 2010 and farther back
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the info Bond-o! I could see where that would happen. Last year, after I put the new one on, we went for the first ride. I noticed is sputtered a few times. I guess some winter moisture had gotten into the tank? I put Stabil in it when winterized. So I dumped the fuel out of the filter. No more sputtering the rest of the year. Now with my budget that would be a problem, buying a new filter after the first ride--as well as a pia But then again it could be more expensive, I know as you said. Just getting past that initial ride where the boat has been sitting since October is the problem
