How much will it slow me down?

I have a 17' Campion with a 175hp OMC. The prop that is on the boat is a 14 x 18 with my spare prop being a 14 x 17. I'd like to be able to slow the boat down for trolling and with the currrent prop I can only slow down to just under 4 mph. How much slower would I be able to go with the 14 x 17 prop?

How slow do you need to troll? I don't think you will be able to go under 3 mph with any prop. You might want to try trolling with a drift sock. That will slow you down quite a bit. I did it on my Stratos and was able to troll between 1.8 -2.5 mph.

I don't think you will hardly notice the 17 difference. You might try lowering the idle a little.
A drift sock,a trolling plate or maybe a 5 gallon bucket.
I just realized if your rpm is say 700 going to a 17 will increase your idle speed rpm a little
your actual; decrease would be tempered by that.
Disregarding rpm and guessing 40% slip the decrease is about .3. from 4.3 to 4.
