How much water should come out?

Ok I have an old, 75, Starfire 18 ft with an OMC 190 setup. I have the factory connector to hook up my garden hose to it instead of using muffs. So my questions is with the motor running at idle how much water should be coming out of the upper hoses that are connected to the thermostat housing? I took out the thermostat to make sure if there is a good flow of water. I am trying to figure out of the impeller is any good. The water pump on the motor is new. With it running I get some water moving in the hose. I am not sure if the flow is the result of the garden hose pushing water or what? I would have thought that the water should be almost spraying out.

You're not going to get a good read on the impeller from running it on the hose. The Stringer has to be submerged for the impeller to move water. If it's a new-to-you boat; change the impeller. If the impeller hasn't been changed in three years; change the impeller.

Otherwise, put her in the lake and see if it moves water and test the flow that way.
