how much water presure

ihave a 96 merc efi 200hp #g349815 .
how much water presure should i be reading on the gauge at dashboard and are these gauges reliable
thanks

The poppet usually blows off at 12-15 lbs or even less. Ive never seen more than 14 lbs out of mine and thats WOT. Idles usually more like 5 PSI.

2-5psi is normal at idle and 12-15 at WOT.

well i have no concerns now as thats pretty much what mine says .what a load off thanks again .im sure ill come up with more questions as i get more aquainted with this engine .its my first merc always had evinrude and johnson before

The Mercury in its fishing motor version has a poppet to relieve the pressure so it doesnt get too high. Excess pressure get directed to the mid section. One of the less interesting parts of the johnnyrude motors was the unregulated water pressure that tends to blow out the base gasket.
