can a local body shop paint your boat?? I have heard the Automotive paint is similar to Marine paint. I have a 17' Chris Craft that is fading and needs a new gel coat. HOw hard is it do it myslef. Is there anything paint that is ready to paint without primeing. Any suggestion. With primeing do you just applay a primer right over top and then paint?? Any suggestions.

Yes, A body shop could paint your boat with automotive type paints but only if you do not intend to leave the boat in the water for extended periods of time (like more that 48 hours or there-abouts)...

You ask "how hard is it to do it myself"... Difficult question to answer.. I will say that the most important part of the painting process is the preperation of the surface prior to painting... The sanding, filling holes and other gouges ect.... Thats what "makes or breaks" the job...

Here is a link to the Interlux web page.. They make some paints, particularly their Brightside polyurethane; that are user friendly for the do-it-yourselfer... Go there and read up.. ;)

http://www.yachtpaint.com/usa/
