Re: How much is a 1986 Johnson V4 90hp worth?
For my last boat I sold I just used this language "I'd be happy to make a successful test drive a condition of sale."
Very good language that's reasonable. The fee to test drive doesn't work because too many sellers stretch the truth and have a very biased view of condition.
Quick story (I have tons) - I went to inspect a boat that according to the seller via phone ran "flawlessly". I met the seller at the dock and asked him to start it. He pulls the cover off the 125 Force and shoots ether into the carbs. Then he says,"Oh, I only need to do this if its sits for a couple weeks". The floor was soft as well and his reply to it was,"You just need it to stand on". Too funny.
Back to the original question... Leave the T&T on. You may break bolts trying to remove it and you'd need to replace it with the pressurized shock/piston assembly(+mounts) from a manual tilt model.
If you've got a real low hour, near new compression, cosmetically excellent, that a mechanic will buy off on motor...Ya, $2,500 would work in CT.. If it's a salty dog that has some wear, even compression and runs, then the # is closer to $800.
Regarding whether to split the package, it would help if you responded to EZ's question about which model/year condition starcraft you have (maybe post a pic). If their isn't much of a market for the boat, a split often makes sense and can sometimes net a few more sheckles. Of course, selling a turn-key boat has a lot of appeal to buyers and you don't have to make 2 sales and removing/un-rigging the motor.
Good luck.
