How much is 80HP 1972 Merc outboard worth (used one year, stored since)?

A friend of mine has an 80HP Merc outboard he purchased new in 1972, used one year, then pickled it, been in his garage ever since.

Trying to help him clean up I suggested he sell it, then thought it would be fun to put on a small boat (hulls should be easy to find).

He told me to research price and he would give me a deal.

I picked up a 200HP, 1994 Merc in very nice shape engine for $1,000 a couple months ago.

$500 fair assuming it still turns? I know it's hard to come up with a number, it is a 40 year old motor and probably needs some attention.

Is it a salty?
What does the wiring look like.
The parts for those motors are hard to come by.
If you love to sell parts. you can make some bucks on Ebay??
