Pretty simple here, ran in a current that was running at 3mph yesterday and actually improved my speed by the same margin from 54 to 56, This seem's a bit fuzzy to me, actually crazy......... Now the water temp's were in th e mid 40's that's 20 cooler than in the summer could that have some effect on engine performance?

Cooler air equals denser air equals more charge equals more horsepower.

Sometimes the current will also give little surface ripples which trap more air under the boat equals more speed.

Well around here it can move as fast as 6 MPH east and west So as a sailor it reallys matters

If i leave on and outgoing tide to Montalk Point i can make and easy 11 MPH over the ground

Now when i get it wrong i can go as slow as 1 or 2 MPH over the ground OR even need to anchor

This is not a TEST i have done these stupid humans tricks

The real fun starts when you want to go north to Connecticut and your going 6MPH sideways you really need to figure that one out with the piloting log before you leave :)

Even as a powerboater also when i do a 90 mile run i need to keep it in mind as it makes a BIG difference in fuel use
