I have a 10 year old Sears trailer. It is built for a 14' aluminum boat. It has a single axle with leaf springs. The model#, capacity plate, etc., is gone. Anyone have any idea what this trailer can support?
Stalker

Got a photo you can post?

Most of those little Sears trailers have a pretty low capacity. I'd guess about 1000 lb. What size tires are on it?

About 60-70% of the load ratings of the two tires, added together.

The trailer is 1200 miles away so I can't get a picture of it. The tires are small, probably about a foot or 14 inches across. I was thinking of trying to put a small flats boat (15'-500 lbs boat and motor) on it.
Stalker

I called my buddy to check out the tire size. They are 4.80-8 tubeless. By the way, the trailer has bunks.
Stalker

You should be just fine with that 15' boat, if it just weighs 500 lb. with motor. The two tires are either rated for about 500 lb per tire or 760 lb per tire, depending on the class of tire.

Either way, a 500 lb. boat and motor combo will do just fine on that trailer, as long as it's long enough for the boat.

One thing you'll want to do, first off, though, is to check the tires and the bearings before towing it anywhere. If it's been sitting for long, you'll want to pack the bearings. It's entirely possible that they'll need replacing (both tires and bearings.) Any cracking in the tires' sidewalls indicates a need for replacement.

I bought an old trailer like that. First thing I did was buy new hubs, bearings, wheels, and tires. Cost less than $125 for all of them. Good investment.

Yep, as always you guys are right on target. The total weight indicated by the tires is about 1000 lbs. I can move the front mount up about 6 inches and the bunks back about 5. A 15' boat will sit about 3 inches off the rear bunk.
Stalker
