I am looking at purchasing 2 1963 40hp outboards from a guy on Clist. One was said to be running last year and the other is for parts. How much do you think they are worth.

I have a couple of old 40's that I am currently trying to sell for $200 each. Make sure they turn over and have compression. Everything else is reasonably fixable. Especially since you have two of em.

$200 for the pair is not an unfair offer as long as the one that may potentially run has good compression.

He is asking $300 for the pair. I will take a look at them once I sell my OMC sterndrive. I'll probably offer him 200-250. What compression tester do you guys use? Will any old comp. tester due?

At first he said they are short shafts but then he measured them and said they are 29''. I asked him were he measured them from and am yet to get a reply. Did they make these in 29'' or im guessing it would actually be 25'' x-long. If so that's what I need.

The one on the left is a long shaft. Can't tell for sure aout the one on the right. But look to see if the one on the right has that 5" extension like the one on the left.

Is the long shaft 20'' or 25'' or 29'' like he said?

I have this motor. Once I worked the kinks out, it has been a great motor.

From the top of the transom clamp (where it sits on the transom) to the cavitation plate is appx. 18-19" on a short shaft, and 5" longer on a long shaft.

Ok that should fit my boat nicely. I hope I can get them for the right price. Thank you for all of your help.

How fast should this push my 1983 Renken Bowrider? I'm not really looking for speed but I don't want something that sits and wines the hole time. I will be using this boat as a fishing boat.

Re: How much are these twins worth?

As far as what there worth I just picked one up for 100 bucks but its a tiller model.I just got it to fire up today and put the lower unit on it. Cant wait to get it out on the water, As easy as it is to work on I would jump at two for 300 if it came with even one set of controls and a harness.
