Have a 130 V4 1996 model. Wondering about best rpm's for this engine. It has a 19 prop and runs at 5200. Is this about right? I was told 5800 was better.
I have a 97 130 on my sea swirl 17' med v open bow.I run an aluminum omc 15 dia by 17 pitch,runs about 5700 rpm at 42 mph and pulls a skiier right up. Did you figure out why your motor dies when you punch it from idle.my motor does the same thing and im quite frustrated.I cleaned my carbs and that didnt help.
Kevin,<br /><br />I haven't found it yet. I've added some OMC fuel system cleaner and ran OMC cleaner through the port. I'm taking it out today so I'll let you know if any improvement. I share your disapointment after you cleaned your carbs. I just bought this rig a month ago and found that the fuel was old and had water in it. It runs better with good fuel but still dies on quick take off. I did replace one fuel hose clamp but couldn't tell if I had a leak or not just saw some fuel on hose. The boat is a 20' SeaArk Sun Tastic. I'm considering going to a 17 pitch. It came with an unopened 21 and I'm going to try to sell or trade it and keep my 19 for a spare.
I have an omc aluminum 15 1/2 dia X 15 pitch that revvs at 6000 at only 38 mph but would easily pull up multiple skiers.I also have a michigan wheel aluminum 14 1/2 x 19 that turns 5300 rpm at 45 mph but doesnt come out of the hole as fast as I would like. All these figures are with about 3 adults in the boat at 1000' above sea level.I checked my timing yesterday and saw that I was idling at TDC.I dont think thats right but dont have a shop manuel to check setting.do you know what idle setting is supposed to be?
KevinE,<br /><br />I finally fixed my problem. I had some very good help from an OMC man on the net. I rebuilt my carbs paying close attention to the small tubes. I also set my floats per his advice. My 130 now runs like new from idle to WOT.<br /><br />Good boating,<br /><br />Mike
