How many people have you invited to go fishing?

A few?

Ok, how many new people?

Ah, there is the rub isn't it?

Fishing, hunting, and trapping along with many other outdoor activities are under constant assult by "antis." In the past people like us who enjoy the outdoors have simple outnumbered the anti crowd and many of them dismissed them as whackos and crackpot extremists. The simple fact of the matter is that they have had an impact on the things we love to do and they have increased in numbers.

They probably won't eliminate sport fishing in our immediate future or even in our lifetimes, but their efforts can be seen and felt. With propoganda on billboards and even in our schools we may face a future where our grand children or our chidren may not have the opportunity to go fishing if they want to.

So I ask you again, "How many new people have you introduced to the sport?" What have you done to help make them an enthusiast? Interested enough in fishing to fight to preserve it.

ive taken 2 new people this month,to be honest i enjoy fishing with newbies to the sport it is frustraing at times but enjoyble, but around here you got to watch who you take if its a local they can fish out a honeyhole in a heartbeat with somebody else.
But you make very good points and we all should try to get people involved in the sports we love espeacialy the kids.

Things seem different these days. When I was a kid, I never missed an opportunity to go fishing. And I had to be dragged in at the end of the day because I never wanted to quit. Between trying to take my kids, and my cousins kids fishing, I'm a little discouraged. Fifteen minutes into the trip they're already asking "when are were going back?" They just don't really seem interested. And it kind of stinks because my oldest daughter is an awsome fisherman, she's just not interested in it any more.

I've done my part. My son is more addicted than I was at his age! d:) Doesn't matter, I still get sheet from the wife. It's my fault he is off and fishing every night, instead of helping around the house! :$

Lemme see.

Half a dozen girlfriends, wife, four children, eight grandchildren, three neighbors.

It's never done. Now I have a great grandbuddy to train. :)

We used to take our older nephews fishing and they enjoyed it. Somewhere along the line they got addicted to video games and cell phones. (Don't get me started.)

At least the younger ones still want to go...So there is still hope...

I still take my uncle, who is in bad health, because I owe him and he is just the best to be around. He taught my older brothers to fish and hunt (they are 8 and 9 years older than me) and they taught me. Now when I take him we take a couple of his grandkids who are wonderfully well behaved and enjoy it more than he and I do. Uncle does not have a boat and I can only fish three comfortably out of my small boat so I make sure that they all fish and I just keep the boat in position. Everyone has a blast. Have three nephews that go with me regularly and another bud. My eighteen year old son and his buddy like to go if it is convenient for them. That translates to we caught a ton the night before. Life is wonderful.

Not too many.

I converted my wife into a fishing/camping enthusiast, my 2 1/2 year old daughter already loves fishing and I'll start on the 3 month old when she walks. The 2 1/2 year old cried her eyes out last time because Mom and Dad caught big fat 'bows and she didn't want the tiny yellow perch she caught. Broke my heart and made me proud all at the same time.

Unfortunately (or fortunately) just about everyone I know, or at least would like spending time with, is already into fishing and the outdoors.

I try when I can. My 79 year old Grandma is coming to visit next week and we rented a cabin @ Blue Mesa in the hopes of some kokanee, her first time fishing in 30 years or more!

My 2 girls, ages 6 and 9 have to take turns to go fishin with Dad. I took my Dad and Mom out on Fathers Day weekend and had a total blast watching my Ma & Pa catch several fish! All I did was retie my girls's snags and rebait my Ma's hook. My wife says to me after a half hour of this, You haven't even gotten your line in the water...aren't you going to fish? I reply, Nah, I'm havin, too much fun!

I'll have to admit, besides family and friends, I haven't asked too many.

Re: How many people have you invited to go fishing?

Okay, Last weekend I noticed a couple big fellas hand splashing the water out of their flat-bottom jon boat sitting on the boat ramp. Seems the wind and waves were too much for the boat + the big guys. So I go over to offer them my bucket to speed up their job. They were very appreciative and thanked me when the got most of the water out. So I asked them trying to be nice, "Do I dare asked what happened?" When they told me, I asked them if they were still in the mood to go out, that they were more than welcome to join me on my little 14' V-hull. They happily accepted and I met 2 new fishin' buddies. We had a great morning on the lake with everyone catching enough to keep us all excited.

Today, I had another friend of a friend with me and he wanted to do some bass fishing. I started off with a jointed shallow diving minnow that the largemouths were nailing! 8 total, 4 big enough to keep. What a blast! After a while, I offer the same lure to my new buddy, which he happily accepts. Fished the same spots, different spots, pretty much all over the lake, and he ends up getting skunked! Poor guy, I felt bad for him (not really):p

Thanks again for this thread, Bob! I've met some really nice guys in the last 2 weeks that would not have been if it weren't for you.8)
