The thought was inspired by a well respected member. Try to read the written word as if it was spoken.

Written words have little or no non-verbal content and spoken words are loaded with it.

Unfortunately, too many people try to imagine non-verbal content and get the wrong message.

Emoticons help or, if misused, confuse.

Is that the same as "read my lips"?

Confusion is a higher state of intelligence than ignorance.
Now, you have or you haven't had a class?

Awkshoeally, little buddy it's not what you say, it is how you say it. Lesson #1: For Shame, for shame for shame. Exercise one; read it again in Gomer Pyle tones. ;)
Then say it like a mother says it.
Lesson two: Sit down. Exercise Two; Make this a request, a suggestion and a command.
Lesson Three: Mary had a little lamb
It's fleece as white as snow
and everwhere that Mary went
The lamb was sure to go.
Exercise Three: Read it to sound as funny as you can, Read to sound as sad as you can.
