How lower unit seal goes

Hi Im changing the seals from my lower unit from the propeler shaft I forgot how they go the seals have a spring around in the midle are the these springs go facing out side or inside or the inside seal goes with the spring facing inside and the outside seal goes with the spring facing outside? any help please

Inner seal is lip in and the outer seal is lip out. Inner keeps oil in and the outer keeps water out. Of course this is a general rule, some applications are different. Check the service manual for specifics.<br /><br />Good luck!
