I always run the blower on my 19' Runabout for about 2-3 min before starting. Do i need to leave the blower running all the time, or only when starting the boat? What about when idling?
Best to give the motor a good lookover as much as possible, paying attention to the complete fuel system connections. If you do little off plane running, only on sitting and restart. Lots of trolling , etc, run it. The air just simply needs replacing if nothing more than to dump the heat, besides the trace amount of fuel vapor, which can really wreck yer day.
Is there a such thing as a fume detector for combustable gases? It would sure be nice to have to help eliminate the human error aspect of fume evacuation.
I have heard that some blowers are not rated for continuous use, but I ususally leave mine on all the time so as not to forget to run it at slower speeds. Only time I turn it off is when at the gas dock gassing up. <br />I also sniff the air the blower is exhausting in addition to smelling the engine compartment.
