i just got an old 9.5 johnson motor and i'm not sure of the mixture(50-1) also of the year of the motor it is model # M-9R-72M and serial # J3583013 if someone can help me that would be really great

I am brand new here and did a search looking for engine ID and how to date my motors. This thread popped up so I read it and never did look at the dates but did find it pretty funny.
Please forgive a newbe and I will try to check dates before I post in the future.
Thanks Vic. I think I have the E90 ML CRD ID to be an '84 which seems a bit odd given the boat is a 1974 and this looks like the original motor. I wonder if it had an older Evinrude and was updated if the transom mount is the same for many year models which could explain the newer motor looking original.
Joe Reeves is working with me on them but the 15 HP is an odd ball with no markings or number plate anywhere. I did post pics of it and hope someone can help me ID it.
It is much easier to find parts if you have the year it was made and the model numbers.
