i have a 1988 115dt suzuki .saturday morning i started it and noticed oil in lake so i opened the cover to find a fuel line leak , no problem replaced it......now my problem, i noticed the voltage regulator had melted through the platic cover that holds all the electrical stuff....i found a regulator and rectifier on an old 115 motor and all the numbers matched....
i replaced them and still no charging to battery so i found a 25 amp fuse blown .... i replaced that and got charging.......now to my question, after running pretty hard for 30 mins i took cover off and regulator was hot to touch...no melting but seems like if it got hotter it would...is this normal or if not what to check next?......thanks

Re: how hot should regulator be?

I would look a little deeper than the parts you replaced. Did you add anything new to the electrical system(new battery?, etc). Did you check all the wires to see if they all look good and no rubbing or grounding of wires was taking place. Im no mechanic, but it sounds as if you might want to at least investigate a little further to see what is happening.
Good Luck
