how high is too high...rpm

j60tletd. at WOT I can exceed 6000 rpm. is that too high and if so what should i do about it?

6K won't hurt it but are you sure the tach is set right?

i'm pretty sure, i just installed a TINY TACH.

That should be OK then. Tell us more about your set up. What boat, prop, (accurate) top speed, actual top rpm etc.

i have a 15' Dynatrak 150 fiberglass bass boat with a j60tletd. i believe the prop is a standard 13 1/4 x 17 three blade black aluminum, michigan I believe, nothing special.

also have a hydrofoil on it.

my top speed is right around 40 mph. can't recall a top rpm, but i believe it was around 6100 or 6200.

does that help at all?

Good info. At 6200 and 40 mph you're at about 5% slip. That's a bit too good to be true. Perhaps the speed or rpm could be off slightly. I'd like to see you try a 19 ss prop.

thanks for the reply Dhadley. tell me, what would i expect from a 19 ss prop? better top end? more power? i'm a total rookie on prop specs and their effect on boat performance.

I am new to boating....but I higher pitch prop will lower your top end RPMs...read that on this site

You will lose about 400 RPMs and may or may not pick up some top end speed. You will most likely lose some hole shot, too. All you can do is try it...
