I have 2 late 70s model Mercury inline 6 115hp engines. The one on my boat has a hole in piston 3. I am just wondering what all is involved in swapping the whole power unit. Any details are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

it is best to drop the gearcase before pulling the powerhead. Also, you will need to pull the powerhead straight up about 1 foot to clear the mounting studs and lower cowling. You will need a hoist of some kind to do this. I use a really cheep block and tackle which I bolt to the garage door header and use plumbers strap to attach the other end to the flywheel bolts.

better make sure to purchase a new gasket before you tackle this, otherwise you might have a large water or exaust leak.
