I am currently in the market for a new outboard for my Triton bass boat. I am seriously considering the Suzuki DF250SS. Can anybody give me any insight on reliability. I don't want to buy another boat because I like the way I have mine set up. I don't want to go back to a 2 stroke because they are too prone to powerhead failures. I want a reliable engine even if I am sacrificing a little on the top end. Thanks in advance and tight lines!!

Any outboard whether 2 or 4 strokes not properly maintained will be prome to have powerhead failure.. Outboards needs more maintenance than cars. specialy the ones used on salt waters. Japanese outboards are very reliable if well maintained and cared for..

Suzuki outboards are an excellent product. Every bit on par with the Yamaha brand.

For many, many reasons the trend is to four stroke outboard motors. You will be pleased with your new Suzuki. Just don't try and start it whilst it is already running. Or pull the boat out of the water while leaving the motor running. They are that quiet.

20 years and over 2000hrs on a 2 stroke without any Power Head issues. That being said, upgrading last year, I switched to Suzuki 4 stroke.

My only experience with Suzuki 4 stroke is my 2002 DF140 that I have had for 2 years. It starts every time, runs very quiet, gets great gas mileage and (knock on wood) has only needed normal maintenance.
