Hey i got a early 70s 60 hp mariner and i was wondering how fast it would charge the battery while running? would a stator system charge slow? like a trikle charger? thanks in advance

Re: how fast will motor charge?

Your engine probably has a 10 amp alternator or thereabouts. How long it takes to charge a battery depends on how discharged the battery is to start with. Look at it this way -- a 40# thrust trolling motor draws about 40 amps of current from the battery. If you ran it steady for an hour it would take your engine 4 hours to replace those 40 amps IF you ran wide open the entire time. If the alternator output was 40 amps (which it isn't) it would take an hour to charge that same battery running wide open. Alternator output is specified in amps max which is usually very near wide open throttle.
