After extensive detailing I finally put my 1990 60hp Stratos/Erude onn the water. I bought this boat used in 1993. Excellent shape then and now. For the most part I ran the motor wide open (approx 35mph/5500rpm after trimming) open to get from point A to B. Never thought much about speed until now. Is this hard on the motor? How many RPM's should I run the motor at? What is considered to be an idle RPM? Is 35mph @ 5500rpm close? I believe I have less than a 100 hrs on the motor after 14 years. Thank ya'll for any info you can give.

Sounds to me like your rig is performing well. 5500 at top speed should be quite healthy for that motor. Its actually a worse sitation if your rig can not achieve its optimal top engine speed (when over-propped and lugging). Running at full speed will not hurt your motor, they are designed to be run as such. I believe the idle RPM for your motor should be approximately 750 with the engine in gear.

jc1933, I just went through my beeper alarm and this is what I know. The beeper has 2 detachable wires (pos and the alarm signal itself which is grounded in the event of an alarm). There is a third wire which is connected directly to ground. When the keyswitch is turned on +12V is put to termianl marked + (mark is onside). This will put the beeper in the brief self test mode. When an alarm occurs the other terminal has a ground put to it which gives you an audible indication there is a potential problem. From this info I believe you can check your system using a voltmater. If I can do it, anybody can do it.

Actually 5500 on a 56 cid 3 cylinder is kinda low. We'd rather see it up around 6000 for a longer life.

Those motors tend to last longer if they are run wide open. It seems to be hard on #2 cylinder when they are run in the mid range forextended periods with the stock jetting.

Hey, Thanks for the input. I'll look at the rpm tomorrow to make sure my initial info was correct. Wide open is what I'll run her
