Was checking out a motor the other day, didn't really try to push the fly wheel too much, and there was no h2o near by, so i figured i would just try spinning the fly wheel.....how much force usually needs to be applied to get it moving?

Are you trying to turn it with the spark plugs in? You should remove all spark plugs first. Does this motor have a battery? If so you should try to crank it without the plugs. It is also a good time to do a compression check. This will let you know if the cylinders are in good shape. Three things to remember, compression - fuel - spark is what makes an engine run.

You should be able to turn it over by hand fairly easily. The bigger the engine and the more cylinders, the harder it is. The flywheel should have a real "easy" spot where it easily moves back and forth. Then a hard to move spot where the compression begins to build.

Oh yea....BE CAREFUL!! You can lose a hand doing that if she fires. At least unhook the plug or coil wires.
