I may bid on these suits:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=3877942079&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT

Does anyone know how rugged they are? and if these are a good price? 25 for 45.00 shipped. That's less than $2 a suit.

I did look out on the net and these seem a whole lot cheaper than than every other vendor I've seem.

Even though I do not have a motor for my boat, I must finish the floor and I figure I will have to belt sand it smooth before I apply the Nautolex flooring. Yuck!

I have used dupont disposable coveralls in the past but I can't remember if they were tyvek. They cost me about AU$10.00 each (about US$7.00). That makes $45.00 for 25 pretty damn cheap.

They did the job boom but you've got to be careful, they are thin.

Aldo

Depends on how rough you are on the suit. I use a tyvek suit for a clean room set-up. I can typically use the same suit for a month.

Well for starters, gspig, how about crawling around on your hands and knees, inside the boat, wielding a belt sander.

Aldo, these are made by Dupont.

Yeah I know but I think dupont have different types of disposables, I don't know if I used tyvek or not. The advertising spiel says that the tyvek is good for radiation  Must be good quality!!

Aldo

One of the vendors had a sizing chart. They showed extra large for my height and weight. That's what I got.

I probably now own a lifetime supply of suits but for less than $2 each maybe I'll find new uses for them.

We use them in "the service". I use them at home. Get them large so you have room to move. Pricing differences can also account for booties, hoods, etc.

Just put some knee pads on OVER the tyvek suit and you'll do fine.

Good price too.

I didn't know they had elephants in Australia! :p

It's the long legs that do it Aldo. That picture was taken in 1988. I've been up but have come back down to within 10lbs of that picture. But like azfyrfyter63 says, get 'em large.

Hey Boom -

I picked up one of these a while ago at Home Depot to do some work in the attic. It kept me from getting covered in insulation which was nice, except I split the backside out of it working my way back through a tight area.

Not sure if it's exactly the same as what you're getting, but probably close. They are good and make working a lot more comfortable - just take it easy on 'em.

That's a pretty good price.

I work in the Purchasing department for a large healthcare system, and with our volume and group discounts, we pay only slightly less.

Ditto to what others have said about sizing - better to have 'em larger than smaller. I see you're up North, so this might not be a big concern, but these things do not breathe, so it can get quite warm in there!

If you're trying to protect yourself from some nasty stuff, wear gloves and tape the joints with the handyman's secret weapon (duct tape). We use these suits in our decontamination areas, so they're built to take some abuse.

Hi Boom,
I have worked haz.mat.removal(on and off)for 7 years.
The suits are made out of paper, and are for a one time use.It doesn't take much to rip them.I'd spent my money on a couple cheap pair of ****ies.

Re: How durable are Tyvek Jumpsuits.

I use a similar jumpsuit made by this company for hazardous materials work ie. meth lab cleanup. They are fairly durable and work well. They are disposable, so easy cleanup. If they do tear or whatever, you can just get a new one.
I used to carry one with me in my personal cars. If I was dressed up going someplace and had trouble, I could slip one on and do the fix without getting dirty. They are handy for a lot of little jobs.
When we use them for official disposal work, we use duct tape on the cuffs and pant legs. We also duct tape loose around the knees to protect from rupture. They are paper but they have a stronger fiber type makeup that makes them a little stronger. Kind of like a hospital gown. It will be good for fiberglass and sanding type work you described. Problem, is working fiberglass, the fibers stick in the paper and can rub off onto skin. It is a good deal from where I sit.

I work in a nuclear plant and we use them a great deal. One trick to use if you are bending over frequently is to pull up on them in the waist until the crotch in the suit meets the crotch in your pants, run some tape, belt, rope or something to keep them up. They tear rather easily.
