Ok my kill switch went bad. I think thats it because i could only start the engine by disconnecting the black/yellow wires from the switch boxes. So what i did to make my engine run for now is that i put a toggle switch between the black/yellow wire and the switch box, so when i want to turn off the engine i just flip the toggle switch.

This is only for now. How can i fix this problem?

Are you talking about the KILL switch or the IGNITION switch? Turning the key to OFF or pulling the kill switch lanyard should kill the engine. If neither one works, then there is likely a wiring problem. Can't believe they would both be bad. Disconnected would be a strong possiblity..

Take it out and check the wire connections. Make sure they are not corroded and tight. Also check for broken wires. also check the black/yellow wire from the switch box. If the is a bare spot it could be grounding out. That is how it works. To stop the motor it grounds out the ignition. follow the wire all the way to the other end. It should also connect to a mercury switch that will kill the motor if it is tilted. There should also be a wire connected to it that goes with the wiring harness. The wiring harness from the motor to the ignition switch might have worn insulation, too.

P.S
You might want to consider hooking up an emergency kill switch with a lanyard you fasten to yourself. They come in handy if you fall out of your boat. You wont have to swim as far to catch up with it.

Instead of using a toggle switch, I used a push button switch with a black rubber cover on it on my console. Today I hooked up a kill switch with the lanyard for safety and regulation reasons.
