I don't know if this is the appropriate forum (if not, Don, can you please recommend the appropriate location), but I wanted to give a testimonial if it's ok for a book I just picked up from the local library. It's the Haynes TECHBOOK Holley Carburetor Manual. This one has a pub date of 1993 so there could very well be a later one.
Here's a link to it on Amazon (as of 7/20/2008)
And on Ebay (also as of 7/20/2008)
I know the OEM manuals are great for step-by-step repair, assembly, disassembly, diagnostics, etc. But I checked this book out because of it's AWESOME chapter (chapter 3) on Carburetor Fundamentals. It presumes almost no prior reader knowledge on how a carb works. It explains the 7 common fuel/air flow circuits commonly found in Holley carbs and it does it in very simply english but in great detail. It shows all of the individual parts and explains their function. Of course it does this with lots of diagrams, cut-aways, photos, etc.
Of course it also goes into lots of detail in other chapters on identification, troubleshooting, removal & installation, overhaul & adjustments, etc. I can't attest to how accurate these chapters are since I haven't done any of that work yet, but the "fundamentals" chapter alone was worth the trip to the library.
I've learned SOOO much so far just reading the above intro chapter that I thought I'd share the book with any others low on the learning curve like me. I feel like I can (almost) actually make sense of other posts in this forum about floats, jets, needles, etc.
Happy learning...Chris
