The things I carry have a towel wrapped around them and are pushed against the windshield. Please explain how my windshield is going to get broken.

Lets assume boards placed in without any padding and gap between it and windshield
Next assume boards placed in with padding and no gap between padding and windshield

It would only take once for me and it would never happen again, padding or no padding.

You must also assume whether the load is secured, which it usually was not.

A windshield is two layers of 1/8" glass, not tempered so no additional strength. The slope of a windshield from the outside is able to take some hits. The slope from the inside is not suited for impact.


I did autoglass for 12 years and I stick with mass is mass, inertia is inertia.

I was rear ended by a mini van once that had
4x4’s it. No damage to either car except for his windshield. They didn’t make it all the through but still ruined his day.
